As the provincial “May is Community Living Month” – a campaign designed to raise awareness about Who Community Living is, What they do and What valuable services they offer to their community draws to a close – it was only fitting that an anniversary celebration gala held the evening of May 27, 2015 marked the 55th Anniversary of Community Living Campbellford/Brighton (CLC/B). An organization that has seen significant change during that those 55 years and even since their 50th Anniversary Gala held in April 2010, Community Living’s goal is not only to raise awareness but also to increase opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities within the Trent Hills and Brighton communities.
The organization hosted a Wine & Cheese and Silent Auction with all proceeds destined for the continuance of providing quality support and services for people with an intellectual disability throughout the communities of Northumberland County. Immediately following at the Aron Theatre, guests were entertained by Motivational Humourist Meg Soper whose keynote presentation entitled “Wit, Fit and Balance…Strategies for Success” shed some comedic light on the stresses of everyday life using humour and perspective. On behalf of the Board of Directors, Nancy Brown, Executive Director extended a warm welcome and words of thanks to everyone for their continued support.
Today Community Living Campbellford/Brighton provides services and supports for approximately 140 individuals in Northumberland County. The Organization chooses to have an independent body, Council on Quality and Leadership (CQL), measure the quality of its support to continually enhance services. Four consecutive external Quality Reviews have measured our abilities and have resulted in our Organization being accredited at the highest level possible. Accreditation was earned in 2000 through Council and Quality Leadership and was the first North American organization to achieve a non-mandated accreditation for a 4year duration. We are booked for our next Quality Review in October 2015; when successful, we will be certified using the Council and Quality Leadership’s “Person Centred Excellence” accreditation.
