Reaching Out in Northumberland
Through an innovative partnership between the County of Northumberland Community & Social Services Department and the Northumberland Community Futures Development Corporation, Northumberland residents will now be able to better access a variety of services with local service providers in their home communities.
“We are excited to announce this new initiative which will expand opportunities for all residents of Northumberland County,” says Ellen Armstrong, Employment Services Manager for Community & Social Services. “In collaboration with several local organizations we are now able to provide services in a network of offices throughout the County,” she adds.
The Community Service Hub locations are Port Hope, Brighton, Colborne, Campbellford and Alderville.
“We are also excited about the prospect of offering the use of these offices to other agencies that are interested in expanding their services to any or all of these areas,” says Jamie Simmons, Program Development Manager at the Northumberland Community Futures Development Corporation. “We are all aware that transportation can often be a problem in accessing services for residents outside the Cobourg area. These hubs will now provide easier access to meet with staff from various agencies for scheduled appointments in people’s own communities,” he adds.
Each Community Service Hub has at least one private office that is equipped with a computer and internet access that is available for use by staff from partner agencies. Additionally, there is a web-based booking calendar that can be used by approved agencies to secure office space in the hubs. “This project makes services more accessible and is part of an overall strategy to promote a collaborative and successful human services system in each of our communities,” concludes Ellen Armstrong.
“The Campbellford Community Resource Centre is hosting its Community Service Hub Open House at 65 Bridge Street East in Campbellford, Wednesday July 29 from 2:00 to 4:00pm. Please join us in the launch of this exciting collaboration,” invites Vicki Clarke, Campbellford Community Resource Centre Manager.
