Congratulations to Dave Montgomery and Anne Beson

Local residents Dave Montgomery and Anne Beson were recently recognized by the Province of Ontario for their many hours of volunteer service to the community of Campbellford.

Dave and Anne were both nominated for their many hours of community volunteer hours by Salvation Army Social Service Worker Janey Leach.

Among other volunteers, the two were formally recognized recently for their many hours of service to the Campbellford community.  Both Dave and Anne were presented by the Province of Ontario with a certificate and pin presented by the Honorable Eric Hoskins, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration at the Trentwinds International Centre, Peterborough

Dave has partnered with Community Living Campbellford/Brighton, the Salvation Army, and the Campbellford Food Bank for many Christmas’ the past few years.  Many of you will remember seeing Dave in front of the Campbellford Community Resource Centre in his Santa suit collecting toys and money for the Salvation Army Kettle and Christmas Hampers that are distributed during the Christmas Season.  During the month of December Dave is busy monitoring containers that are collecting toys for the Salvation Army Hamper Program located in many businesses throughout the town.  Last year, he saw an increase of toy donations to the number of 300 once all donations received were tallied up.  Dave also delivered a full truck load of food to the Campbellford Food Bank as well.

On hand to see the pair receive their awards were Salvation Army Captains Steve and Tina Manuel of the Campbellford and Trenton Salvation Army Community and Family Services, Lori Buchanan of Community Living Campbellford/Brighton and Salvation Army Social Services Worker Janey Leach. Of her nominees Leach said, “Both are faithful, much valued volunteers. Between the two, they have contributed many volunteer hours to the Campbellford community. It is nice to see them officially recognized for their service.”

Community Living celebrates 50 years!!

Friday April 30, 2010 was an evening Community Living Campbellford/Brighton celebrated 50 years with a Gala Celebration at the Curling Club in Campbellford.  Several employees, people associated with our organization, community members, family and friends attended and a good time was had by all.  The hall was beautifully decorated with donations from Gun-Johnston Cards & Gifts, Brenda Tucker and Judy Hoard.  A lovely Roast Beef dinner was served for all to enjoy.  Many wonderful prizes were generously donated from employees, community members and businesses for a silent action.  It was a huge success and  raised $2500  for the Outcomes Sponsorship Fund.  Lots of people within our organization benefit from this fund for items or events that otherwise are not funded.  After the business side of speeches and awards were completed, everyone had fun dancing the night away.  See our 50th Anniversary page for more activities and information regarding upcoming celebrations.

Donation from U.A. Local 463 Benefit Plans Trust Fund

On December 17, 2009, Angela Clarke accepted a donation from U.A. Local 463 Benefit Plans Trust Fund in Bowmanville.  Their members donate a percentage per hour earned to a charitable trust fund.  The Board of Trustees decide where the money will be donated.  Their generous gift of $4700.00 to our organization will be used to update the generator and purchase a much needed  washer and dryer for our Warkworth Community Home.  This donation will benefit both the people who live in this home and their staff who provide support to the people who live there too.  Thanks again, your generosity is greatly appreciated!

Thanks Kolton, You are a Special Person!!

This morning Kolton Kloosterman, along with his little brother, and parents stopped by Community Living in Campbellford.  It was a special visit that Kolton was making.  His 6th birthday is Dec 25, Christmas Day and he held his birthday party this past weekend.  He invited 25 friends and family to celebrate with him.  They had a great time bowling and enoying the party.  The special part of the party was Kolton’s idea…the invitations he sent out requested the people attending his party to purchase gifts for donating to the toy drive in lieu of buying birthday presents for him.  As you can see from the pictures, Kolton’s donation filled Santa’s Sleigh.  Thank you so much Kolton, you will make Christmas morning a happy one for many children this year.  Everyone here at Community Living Campbellford/Brighton wish you and your family a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy 6th Birthday.

Board-of-Directors-1[1]When Jason Rae was in high school, he wanted to become president of the student council but other students felt he wouldn’t be able to do the job because he had an intellectual disability, he recalls. At the annual general meeting of Community Living Campbellford/Brighton, Thursday (June 26) Jason, 28, proved his schoolmates wrong and made history.

He became the first Self-Advocate in Ontario, and possibly Canada, to be elected president of a federated agency.

To tumultuous applause from more than 80 people, outgoing president Chris Park announced Jason’s election, describing it as a historic event.
